Curious Elixirs

Curious Elixirs are a ready-to-drink booze-free cocktails. The company makes three top-secret flavors, and No. 1 is bold, bitter and herbaceous—their “booze-free spin on classic stirred cocktails like the Negroni and the Old Fashioned.” By the looks of it you think it will hit you like an Old Fashioned, but upon first sip, essence of grapefruit, turmeric, and rosemary-like herby notes come through. It is very lightly sweetened, really barely any sugar at all. The taste is deep and complex and very palatable. I was lucky to try this with my friend Danielle, during a Labor Day BBQ party. I didn’t miss the alcohol that day. At all.  

How many three-day weekends did I spend drinking and feeling weary by the end? How many parties did I go to having beer after beer in order to feel like I could talk with people? I didn’t know this at the time, but drinking was filling a huge insecurity I had. That I couldn’t really be myself around people.  

I don’t know how well or poorly I come across to people I just meet nowadays. But I know it’s authentic. And I know this is part of being alive.
