Gerstel Nonalcoholic Beer
Gerstel is made by the Eichbaum Brewing Company in Germany. This is a very malty and bready beer but surprisingly light in color. It tastes a little like honey toast. It’s mild and grainy with little hops, maybe like a barley tea. I imagine this is the kind of near beer that was popular in the medieval ages, served in wooden steins, you know because they couldn’t drink the water but also couldn’t get drunk all day everyday, I don’t know.
I can find Gerstel in my local Trader Joe’s.
