New Study: Alcohol Disrupts Brain Communication — Here's Why Going Alcohol-Free Is Your Unfair Advantage

Your Brain on Alcohol: New Science Confirms What We Already Know
I've spent the last seven and a half years talking about what happens when you remove alcohol from your life.
The creative downloads you get. The million-dollar ideas. Feeling connected to your deeper intuition and guidance system.
And every year, the science catches up to what those of us living alcohol-free already know in our bodies.
The Study That Stopped Me In My Tracks
This week, a brand new study dropped that stopped me in my tracks.
Researchers at the University of Minnesota just published findings showing that alcohol, even just a couple of drinks, profoundly fragments the way your brain communicates with itself.
They scanned the brains of over 100 healthy participants and found that alcohol causes your brain regions to essentially stop talking to each other at a network-wide level.
Instead of integrated, whole-brain communication, drinking creates a kind of isolated, siloed processing, like traffic getting rerouted to circle one neighborhood instead of flowing freely across the whole city.
Here's the part that really got me: the more disconnected your brain became, the more intoxicated you felt. Your subjective sense of being "drunk" is literally your brain losing its ability to communicate with itself.
What Your Brain Is Actually Doing When You're at Your Best
Think about what that means for you as an entrepreneur, a leader, a woman who knows she's on this planet for a big reason.
Every big idea you've ever had came from your brain making unexpected connections, different regions lighting up together, synthesizing information in novel ways.
Every brave decision, every moment of clarity when you knew exactly what to pivot on or what to say yes to, every time you stood in front of a room and felt on, every time you wrote something that moved people or made a call that changed the trajectory of your career or business, that was your fully integrated, freely communicating brain doing what it was designed to do.
Alcohol interrupts that. Not just while you're drinking, but as a consistent pattern that chips away at your cognitive architecture over time.
We've been sold this story that alcohol helps us relax, gets the creative juices flowing, takes the edge off so we can finally unwind. But the science tells a different story.
It's not unlocking anything. It's fragmenting the very network that makes you brilliant.
The Unfair Advantage You Already Have
This is exactly why I call being alcohol-free an unfair advantage in business and in life. When your competitors are numbing their most powerful tool, their brain, and you're running on full connectivity, full creative-mode, and full access to your own intelligence and intuition, you are simply operating at a different level.
You are operating in the land of million-dollar ideas, that can well, turn into a million dollars, like it did for me.
And functional medicine has been saying the same thing for years. Five out of five functional medicine doctors agree: even low amounts of alcohol shrink the brain, reduce sleep quality, and impair nervous system regulation. The meta-analyzed studies are in. There is no safe amount, and every extra drink detracts from our lifespan.
The study also found that the visual processing center of the brain was one of the most affected regions. Your brain literally becomes less able to take in and process what's in front of you.
How many of us have moved through seasons of our lives with alcohol quietly dimming our ability to see clearly, what we want, who we are, what we're actually capable of?
How many ideas got lost? How many mornings started foggy when they could have started fired up? How many versions of yourself were waiting just on the other side of that decision?
What Changed When I Ditched Alcohol in 2018
I eliminated alcohol back in February 2018 and going alcohol-free didn't just change my lifestyle or habits, it gave me a super-powered brain.
It gave me HUGE ambition, my vision, my ability to dream bigger than I ever had before. The business I built, the book I wrote, the life I'm living now, none of it would exist if I hadn't made that one foundational decision to stop dimming my most powerful asset.
Now science is showing exactly why that's true.
Why Knowing Isn't Always Enough
Here's what I also know after years of working with women on this: knowing the science isn't always enough. The desire to drink isn't just a conscious choice. It gets layered deeply into the subconscious mind from years of experience, societal programming, and associations built up over a lifetime.
The world is constantly sending subliminal messages to drink, and as long as alcohol sits on a pedestal in your mind as a reward or a release, the brain will keep reaching for it.
