6 Mistakes Holding You Back From a 6-Figure Business
I live by a famous quote from Thomas Edison, “I have not failed 10,000 times. I've successfully found 10,000 ways that will not work.”
I believe everything we do has purpose and meaning, and I don’t believe there are any true failures.
Today I can say I own a multiple 6-figure business, got a 6-figure book deal from HarperCollins, retired my husband, and I make an impact and do what I love while traveling the world.
But what you don’t see is what it took to get there.
While figuring it out:
I was incredibly shy and initially believed I needed to be a “social butterfly” to make it as an entrepreneur.
My first launches felt disappointing. Only a few people signed up.
I took an incredible leap of faith, and I invested in myself when I had NO evidence of it working. (P.S. It worked!)
Looking back, I’m so thankful for these experiences and the inspiring mentors and coaches who showed me the way forward. I’m happy to pass on what I now know and help you save you time, money, and peace as an entrepreneur building to six figures.
My heart tells me I made these mistakes so you don’t have to.
I encourage you to read this list with zero judgment. If you see yourself in any of these mistakes, know that it’s so normal for entrepreneurs in their first months or years of business to face these challenges. This list is here simply to make you conscious of them and help you move forward more swiftly and confidently. Let’s dive in.
Your prices are too low
When you’re changing your relationship with alcohol, beliefs matter. By making mindset shifts, we’re able to truly clear our desires for alcohol.
Money mindset and entrepreneurship work the same way. If you continue to hold onto unhelpful stories about money, it can really limit your earning potential.
I know firsthand how difficult it can be to evolve our money mindset. I grew up in a frugal immigrant home. Whenever we left the house, my parents always made sure to pack sandwiches so we wouldn’t “waste money” grabbing our meals on the go.
These money blocks showed up in my first months as a coach. I assumed my clients didn’t have enough money to pay for my programs and my prices embodied that belief.
Working on my money mindset helped me push past the blocks I learned as a child and shift the beliefs holding me back from making a profit as an entrepreneur.
I learned to think beyond the number of sessions I offer to the transformation waiting for my clients.
When you help someone change their relationship with alcohol, discover their deeper purpose, or give them the confidence to go after their dreams, that transformation is invaluable.
You’re changing the course of someone’s future. Price your services accordingly. Pricing you feel good about benefits you and your clients.
2. You’re saying goodbye too soon
We’re on a constant road to more pleasure, more fulfillment, and more purpose in our lives.
That means, if you provide a single service to your clients and send them on their way, they’re missing out—and so are you.
When you build trust and rapport and a beautiful relationship with your clients, they want to learn as much as possible with you. Make sure you’re positioned to offer it to them.
Be creative. Explore your offer. After launching my signature 16-week program, Become Euphoric, to help women clear their desires for alcohol, I thought about the other ways I could help women on this journey. Ultimately, I designed Dry Bootcamp, a 22-day program to help women practice taking a break from alcohol and, Become Emboldened, a program to help women find their deeper purpose after 2+ months alcohol-free. Now I help women become coaches themselves, through my Empowered AF Coach Certification Program, and offer coaches 1-on-1 business coaching.
By looking at the bigger picture, I’m able to help my ideal client at every stage of her journey. I’m there when she’s curious about going alcohol-free, when she commits to 4 months, and when she’s cleared all desires for alcohol and begins to follow her incredible intuition to self-actualize and step into her deeper purpose.
3. no brand or thought leadership
When you’re building your brand, think about Tony Robbins, Rachel Hollis, and Brené Brown. What elevates their brands to a whole other level?
There are three simple things that set them apart: a specific niche, omnipresent marketing, and thought leadership.
Specificity
Brené Brown doesn’t just call herself “a wellness expert.” When you hear the name Brené Brown, the words vulnerability and shame immediately come to mind because she’s carefully cultivated her brand around them. I don’t just market myself as an “alcohol-free coach.” Euphoric is an aspirational brand, attracting entrepreneurs and helping ambitious women find their deeper purpose.
Omnipresent Marketing
Discover the resources that will help you become omnipresent on podcasts, social media, and online. For example, there are tools you can use to automate your email sequences and build your email list without a bunch of extra legwork.
Thought Leadership Marketing
If I were to make a reference to Tony Robbins’ 6 Human Needs, most people might already know about something about them or be able to make an educated guess without a detailed explanation. Why? Tony Robbins, Rachel Hollis, and Brené Brown have developed their coaching and frameworks in such great detail, they’re instantly recognizable.
Aspire to build thoughts and ideas unique to your brand. Step into the role of a thought leader.
4. Making Decisions from Present Day You
If you knew your dreams were inevitable and it was only a matter of time until you achieved them, would you act differently?
When we make decisions from our present day selves with our present day fears and worries, it keeps us stuck in fear and lack.
Imagine the future you—2 years, 3 years, 5 years, and 10 years from now—and ask, “What is she capable of?” Start acting as if you’re a bestselling author or multiple six figure entrepreneur today and make important decisions as future you.
5. Not getting help
Our first months or years in business, we start as solopreneurs who do everything. We’re a jack of all trades, and it’s just not sustainable as you grow.
In The Big Leap, Gay Hendriks describes four zones: the zone of incompetence, the zone of competence, the zone of excellence, and the zone of genius. You want to be living in your zone of genius.
Save your energy to answer your calling and do the work you’re meant to do. Delegate and get help with the rest.
Get help earlier than you think you need it. You can start small. If you’re already juggling too many tasks, try hiring a VA for just a few hours a month. Start at 4 or 5 hours. It’s a small investment that will protect your time and sanity.
6. shiny object syndrome
The last thing we all do when in the early stages of our businesses is get carried away by distractions or Shiny Objection Syndrome.
Every new training, newsletter, and business tip makes you wonder if you’re focused on the right thing.
My friend Teri Patterson describes it this way:
In the first year of her business, she wondered whether she should do a 5-day launch sequence, a tiny offer, or a high-value offer. She was torn. She researched a bunch of things and very rarely executed them. She was caught up in the throes of Shiny Object Syndrome, and everything looked like the next big thing.
When Teri began working with me, she was able to free herself from that narrative. She was able to stop constantly training and start implementing what she had learned.
Forget about overnight successes and life hacks. Release that energy.
Focus on execution. What really gets you closer to six figures is a system and a well-implemented strategy.
The alcohol-free movement is exploding.
There is so much room in this space for inspiring and ambitious alcohol-free women, thought leaders, and coaches.
After years of trial and error and figuring out what does and doesn’t work, I’m so passionate about helping other women put the right systems in place and build a strategy that will work for their unique purposes.
My mentor describes it like baking a plate of the most delicious brownies.
Are you going to hoard them and eat them all yourself?
I know I’m eager to share. I may eat a brownie or two and enjoy it, and then I want other people to enjoy them too. I want other people to enjoy the freedom, impact, and fulfillment that comes from growing their alcohol-free business to six figures and beyond. I believe we have a moral imperative to help other people.
At my upcoming VIP mastermind weekend for alcohol-free coaches, To Six Figures and Beyond, I’m going to share the systems that helped me personally scale Euphoric to multiple six figures.
I can clearly imagine the incredible ripple effect alcohol-free women can and will have on the world, and my calling is helping you be part of it.
Will I meet you there? Please use the code LOVELOVE to enjoy $500 off. Together, alcohol-free women and women entrepreneurs are creating a movement. We’re changing the world. You can make an impact and find joy in a freedom lifestyle. It’d be a gift to get to know you and teach you more.
