Old Fashioned Mocktail
When I was in Scotland, I went to a super fancy and hip Indian restaurant that had an amazing mocktail menu. My eyes light up when I saw an Old Fashioned, as it’s not usually a cocktail that you see in soft format (being made mostly with just whiskey). The mocktail was absolutely brilliant, smoky, sweet, spicy. The ingredient list was totally intimidating though, with things listed like demerara and applewood. So instead of trying to smoke applewood chips and make a crazy concotion at home, I made this super easy. I got an Old Fashioned cocktail mix! But that’s only one part of the drink, so what would make the bulk of flavor? When I found a tea that was made with both cinnamon and orange, I knew I found it. In fact the bulk of the flavor comes from the tea (at four parts tea to one part mix). This may just be the easiest mocktail I’ve ever made.
Recipe:
4 oz Spiced Tea, cooled (I used Good Earth Sweet and Spicy with flavors of cinnamon and orange)
1 oz Cocktail Crate Old Fashioned Mixer*
A dash of aromatic bitters, if desired
Orange peel, for garnish
Pour ingredients into a cup with ice and stir vigorously. Twist an orange peel to release oils and add to drink. Voila.
You can find the old fashioned mixer on amazon.
