Episode 279: Is It Rest You Need or Are You Just Being Lazy?
Have you ever found yourself wondering if you actually need rest … or if you’re just being lazy?
Modern culture tells us to hustle, hustle, hustle, but there’s a wave of “soft girl” healing and self-compassion talk in the air, too.
How do you find the balance between these two paradoxes of speeding up and slowing down?
And how do you know when it’s time to deeply nourish yourself vs. when is it time to GO?!
I call the limbo of neither deeply resting nor deeply pursuing your purpose “the drift,” a phrase I’ve taken from Napoleon Hill’s amazing book, Outwitting the Devil. It’s something I have to work through and negotiate all the time.
In this episode, I unpack the truth behind the drift, including what’s REALLY causing your resistance to push forward (which is probably due to fear, not lack of discipline). I also offer my go-to tips for getting real rest so when it’s time to get back to work, you’re nourished and ready.

IN THIS EPISODE:
“The drift” – that uncomfortable purgatory of neither deeply resting nor deeply pursuing your purpose, and how it sabotages creativity and well-being
How to get deep rest, and reminder: scrolling is not rest, but nature walks, baths, and unplugging are
The reasons why we might not be taking action, including being afraid (both of failure and of success!)
Why intentional, luxurious rest is not a reward, but an essential fuel source, with hacks for weaving deep nourishment into your daily life
Setting a container for rest: a day, a weekend, a week, but being intentional about it so you can return back to your creative, soul-driven work
REFLECTION QUESTION
Reflect on your patterns of rest: do you consciously create “deep rest” for yourself, or do you drift in a space of guilt and distraction (like scrolling or numbing out)? How would it feel to give yourself permission for intentional, restorative rest?
“When you're really, truly, deeply allowing yourself to rest, you don't need to do it for that long of a time. You don't need months and months and months of rest because most of the time, if you take months and months and months and months off from what you really want to do, you're actually drifting. You're not really resting at that point. But when I'm talking about deep rest, it's really, truly allowing yourself to unplug.” - Karolina
“Get a massage, go into the sauna, go have a beautiful mineral bath, take a walk by the coast, take a walk by the lake, play with animals. Really allow yourself to have this juicy, 2-day experience over the weekend and then get back at it.” - Karolina
