Episode 75: Limitless You with Melyssa Griffin
This week’s episode of Euphoric The Podcast features Melyssa Griffin. Melyssa is a multi-million dollar business owner who helps women entrepreneurs step into the most aligned, abundant, expansive version of themselves. Her program Aligned Abundance Mastermind is a 6-month coaching experience for conscious leaders who want to scale their business with soul, embody their truth and wholeness, and expand beyond what they think is possible.
Listen as Karolina and Melyssa talk about success, burnout, and finding alignment with yourself, including Melyssa’s favorite joyful practices. They explore how the beliefs you hold fundamentally create your reality, and how you can shift yours by being guided and held in a safe emotional space.
Redefining success and discovering your values.
Melyssa launched her first business while teaching in Japan, beginning with a blog and evolving it into a graphic design business. Over time, she eventually scaled her blog and graphic design services into a flourishing six-figure company.
As her passion for teaching about running a business grew, she shifted gears away from graphic design and into course creation, teaching online programs to an audience of bloggers and entrepreneurs. Melyssa invested fully in the growth of her business, which ultimately led to what she describes as burnout.
Defining burnout as “continuing to walk down a path that is not yours,” Melyssa used this season to reevaluate herself and her life. Some important realizations for her included new awareness on the difference between societal success and personal success.
When you let go of what society deems as successful to welcome what success is for you, not only will you experience deeper alignment with yourself, but you will begin creating a life that is fulfilling, joyful, and abundant.
Get curious about the motivation behind your actions. Do you want to own a six or seven-figure company? What drives that desire? Maybe you want more quality time with your family or the freedom to travel internationally.
As you discover the values underpinning your motivation, you can create stability from the inside out, instead of the outside in. Knowing what is important to you becomes a guidepost helping you stay in alignment and discern what is best for you.
Understanding self-abandonment and the power of getting off auto-pilot.
Melyssa talks about the importance of turning off auto-pilot. It can be very easy to go through the motions of life, never questioning the deeper reasons to what you are choosing in your life. This often results in self-abandonment.
Self abandonment could be having a conversation with a team member who says something that crossed a boundary. Maybe someone asks you to do something that is out of alignment with your values, but you do it anyway. Self-abandonment could mean not speaking up in a conversation.
When you set your boundaries, or speak up even if that means making someone uncomfortable, you are reclaiming your sense of truth and owning your worth and value.
Melyssa shares her experience working with many different life and spiritual coaches. By doing this she was able to get many different perspectives. The value of a coach for her was the ability to have someone reflecting her truth back to her, so she could see it in a different way. Having this mirror helps her to evolve and grow as she digs deeper into herself.
An important component to transformational work is the focus on mindset over strategy. The perspective you hold informs the way you show up in the world and the results that you have.
Are the results in your life the ones that you want? If not, it can be helpful to look at the filters and belief systems that inform the way you view the world and yourself.
Melyssa shares a statistic that as humans, we take in 11 million bits of information in any given moment. We can only process 50 bits of information out of that 11 million. The determinants that filter which 50 bits we process, are the belief systems and rules that we’ve created around how we see the world and how we see one another.
It can be helpful to ask yourself:
“What’s working?”
“What’s not working?”
Follow up by asking:
“Why is it working?”
“Why isn’t that working?”
When you shift which filters you use to process information, you shift the way you experience the world, others, and yourself. You become in control of what you see as possible and begin creating the results you want to have in your life.
Accepting the consistency of change and finding joy in the now.
Humans begin creating beliefs systems and strategies for living in the world from the beginning of their existence. As you go through life, you may realize that some of these strategies no longer suit you. You may have reached a point where a strategy that once helped you navigate the world is actually inhibiting you.
This happened to Melyssa and became a beautiful turning point in her life. She noticed the way she was viewing her romantic relationship was unhealthy and unsupportive of what she said she wanted. As she began shifting belief systems one at a time and noticing progress, she gained motivation and momentum to continue on her journey of personal growth. She became curious and excited about what else was possible.
Another important component to Melyssa’s journey was discovering her spirituality. This gave her a sense of grounding and safety, believing that the universe is working with her and supporting her. This also helped put life and her struggles into perspective. She found freedom in realizing that “nothing matters and everything matters.”
The only guarantee that life offers is change. Fear of change often leads to staying stuck in the same place, even if the life you’re living isn’t where you want to be. The truth is, change is what enables us to progress and grow.
Melyssa explains that fear of change can often stem from the belief that things need to stay the same in order to be okay. She describes life as a river. When you fear change, you are fighting against the current, trying to go upstream. When you welcome change and the unknown, you get to go with the current on an exciting journey and trust the process.
As you shift your mindset around change and begin welcoming it as a beautiful part of life, it will bring you on a continuous journey of becoming the truest version of yourself.
Sharing about her exploration of an alcohol-free lifestyle, Melyssa explains the liberation that comes when you let go of things you feel attached to. If your identity rests in something that doesn’t serve you, it is ultimately holding you back. When you release that attachment, you will find freedom and joy in an uninhibited way.
As you shift your beliefs and how you show up in the world, you begin creating the life you want for yourself. The result will be a deeper sense of joy, curiosity, and satisfaction.
Melyssa also notes that another piece of the process is learning to be present. As you learn to step off auto-pilot, shift belief systems, and welcome change, you will also begin to experience the present moment in a new way. She has experienced this grounding as a catalyst for joy.
By setting aside anxiety, worry or fear, you begin to appreciate the beauty of “now”, experiencing the incredible joy that life offers you in real time, every second.
“I think the beauty of coaching is that a great coach isn't somebody who should tell you how to live your life. They’re somebody who can reflect back your own truth to you so that you can see it in a different way.” Melyssa Griffin
