Episode 127: Playing Small vs. Playing Big

Karolina is here to break down the difference between our conscious and subconscious mind. Do you really know why you drink? Do you know what is subconsciously at play in your choices?

In this episode, you’ll begin to question what drives the decisions you make around alcohol and start to see how this beverage is likely keeping you from playing big in the world. What could it look like if you finally took the time to invest in yourself, instead of allowing fear to be in the driver seat?

As she digs into the role of alcohol in playing small, Karolina offers you an opportunity to choose yourself, your dreams, and care for your emotional needs. Her 22 Day July Dry Bootcamp starts July 5th, and it is the perfect opportunity to redesign your life with support, encouragement, and accountability. Plus, it comes with some juicy bonuses. You won’t regret it!

Beneath the surface: conscious vs. subconscious.

Hello beautiful. Have you ever asked yourself what role alcohol really plays in your life? What if clinging to a relationship with alcohol is actually a subconscious excuse to not go after your bigger dreams?

I am so passionate about this topic and can’t wait to break it down for you.

Let’s first look at the difference between the conscious and subconscious mind. Our conscious mind uses more logic and reason. It incorporates our critical thinking and helps us make sense of things in the most obvious way. For example, “I drink because my friends are drinking.” Or, “I’m drinking because I’m at a social event.” Our conscious mind connects the dots in the simplest ways.

On the opposite side, we can understand our subconscious mind as being a little deeper; more rooted in old beliefs and ulterior motives. Maybe we're not just drinking because our friends drink. Maybe our drinking is actually tied to a belief about unworthiness.

Our mind is literally socialized and programmed into drinking as teenagers, right? And we also see it as the norm in our society. This of course leads to drinking in our own lives, and through that we create our own drinking habits over time.

But what’s really going on here?

When we look at the role of alcohol in our lives at the subconscious level, things start to look a lot less superficial. When we look at our deepest fears and beliefs about who we are, we start to see that alcohol actually keeps us playing small.

Okay, so now we know that there is ABSOLUTELY something operating under the surface and alcohol is doing its best to keep us from digging into it and manifesting our biggest dreams. I encourage you to make a commitment to beautifully get to know yourself and take care of your needs.

Until you form a channel with yourself and discover what your body and your mind really want, instead of defaulting to alcohol, you're always going to be blocking intuition, creativity, and clarity.

So what if you choose to play big, and no longer let alcohol decide for you?

The problem with playing small

I fundamentally believe that we use alcohol as a way to play small in our lives. It is actually an excuse for why we can't play big.

There are a lot of reasons why I say this. From a scientific standpoint, did you know that alcohol literally releases hormones into our brain that increase depression and anxiety the next day? So it would make a lot of sense that we don't have the motivation or consistency to play big.

Playing big is about growing, making changes, evolving, and taking risks to discover and go after what you really want. It means stepping into unfamiliar territory with yourself and the universe. It means trusting yourself and the universe to provide for you.

We often find safety in playing small because the big dreams seem so scary and unknown. Playing small lets our ego talk us out of doing that thing we really want because of fear. You might think one drink is no big deal. But actually, you’re getting pulled back into your old identity instead of pursuing who you want to be.

If you’ve been questioning your relationship with alcohol and you're not quite sure how to quit, or maybe you keep going on and off again, it could be a signal that subconsciously, you're scared of playing big, of showing up 100% for your life.

So, do you want to go backwards, clinging to your old identity? Or do you want to play big and make what seems impossible a reality?

A chance to play big

Alcohol can literally make us forget what our dreams are and that they actually matter to us. I think this can be why we're so scared of letting it go. It is the biggest comfort zone we have. And it's the comfort zone that tells us it's okay to settle.

But is it actually? Playing small will just leave us with regret, wondering what could have been if we just gave it a shot.

I do NOT want you to wake up regretting your decisions, and this is why I invite you to be part of my 22 day July Dry Bootcamp. It’s a mini coaching experience that will change you. “Playing small is playing small into your fears. Playing small is letting your ego talk you out of the things you really want to do because it's scared of the unknown. Playing big is taking risks and taking risks into yourself and having trust in yourself and trust in the universe to provide for you.” Karolina Rzadkowolska
