Ep 184: Life Doesn’t Just Happen to You with Angela Pugh

Take out a pen and piece of paper. Write down what you want.

Don’t worry. Nobody’s going to see it. Can’t think of just one thing? Write it all – everything you want. The next step? Create this life where you get to have the things you want.

Today’s guest, Angela Pugh, is a master life coach, speaker, entrepreneur, and host of the nationally-ranked Addiction Unlimited podcast. In this episode, she shares an important realization she had on her journey to sobriety: that she was not the victim of her life, and that she needed to play a more active role in creating the life she wanted.

Beautiful, you are not a side character, and your desires are not selfish. YOU are the star of your own life, and you have the power to create your own reality!

IN THIS EPISODE:

  • Angela’s story of sobriety, from bartending in Hollywood to her life-changing event that motivated her to cut bad habits and become a better person

  • Progressive drinking – many people don’t drink “too much” when they first start but drink more and more as they grow older

  • A realization Angela had while being a sober bartender – that people are most amazing when they’re in their right mind

  • The idea of taking the life that’s unfolding in front of you vs. creating the life you want and taking personal responsibility for the life you’ve created

  • Visualizing the person you want to be like when life gets difficult, from mothers to future selves to Oprah

REFLECTION QUESTION:

Has this podcast (or Karolina’s book or Instagram presence) helped you and your life? Has it helped you determine more of what you want in your life or help you take a break from alcohol or feel less alone? If so, will you share this podcast with another friend and leave a review?

“I got sober in a 12-step meeting. All those years ago, that was the only thing we had. And I love 12-steps – absolutely love it. But I remember sitting in a meeting super early on and this guy said, ‘I realized that my life is my fault.’ And that line resonated with me so much. Because it started to make sense that all of the chaos and drama of my life was a direct result of my decisions, good or bad. If you want a really fantastic life, then you’ve got to start making fantastic decisions.”

“I worked at this really fancy restaurant, and we would get all these business travelers - these guys that were traveling alone. They would come sit at the bar and eat dinner and then go back to their hotel. I got to meet the most incredible people with jobs that you never even knew were jobs. Everyday I was having these fantastic conversations and connecting with people and learning all about these different things. As they would get to their third drink, it would just shift entirely. They’d start getting a little sloppy. Jokes started getting a little inappropriate. And I would always think gosh, I wish people understood how amazing they are just in their right mind.”
